THE ISSUES
Scott Hooper is a moderate Democrat running for Oregon State Senate to reduce the polarization and extremism that festers in government and tackle the problems our Polk and Yamhill County citizens face.
AFFORDABLE HOUSING
The housing crisis, both for people without adequate housing and for people struggling to pay for or find affordable housing, must be the top priority of the legislature. Scott supports building more houses in small towns and communities, while preserving our beautiful farms, forests, and natural habitats. Housing units must include affordable housing for people at every income level from the middle class to the unemployed.
ENDING HOMELESSNESS
Scott supports building affordable housing for working people. Oregon has 300,000 people who are housing insecure; they don’t have enough money after paying rent or mortgage to then pay for essentials – insurance, utilities, and food. Oregon must also commit to find affordable housing for all veterans and children without housing and end homelessness among these groups.

SCIENCE-BASED SOLUTIONS TO ADDICTION
We have an addiction epidemic. Politicizing the issue, shaming addicts, and relying on police officers to deal with the problem is not the solution. Scott supports the four
pillars approach – treatment, harm reduction (preventing overdose deaths), prevention, and enforcement. Scott supports solutions with a focus on the communities involved. What works in McMinnville, Dallas, or our rural communities is different than what works in cities.
MORE ROBUST PUBLIC EDUCATION FUNDING
Our public schools are underfunded, and Scott supports funding public education. He supports building apprenticeships, training, and education programs to raise
graduation and literacy rates. Scott opposes school vouchers and other efforts to defund our public schools, to politicize our children, or to ban books.
PRO WOMEN’S REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS
Scott supports reproductive rights and is a constant advocate for protecting people’s health autonomy. He supports personal freedoms, and people must have the right and freedom to make decisions about their own body and healthcare.
SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS
Scott is Pro Gun Ownership with sensible controls. Scott is a gun owner and supports personal freedoms, as well as data-driven strategies for improving gun safety. Scott has support from both the Oregon DPO Gun Owners Caucus and received the Moms Demand Action Good Sense Candidate distinction.
